There's no confusion in Thomas Frank’s mind as to who is Brentford’s penalty taker.
Despite missing from the spot in Brentford’s thrilling 3-2 win at Griffin Park on Saturday, Frank is adamant Ollie Watkins is the penalty taker.
There seemed to be confusion as to who was taking the penalty which was given after referee Steve Attwell adjudged Shaun Hutchinson pulled Henrik Dalsgaard to the floor at a corner in the first half.
Watkins won the debate with Said Benrahma to take the spot kick but saw his effort fantastically saved by Bartosz Bialkowski to keep the game scoreless.
“There looked like there was confusion,” Frank said.
“There shouldn’t be any doubt that Ollie is our penalty taker.
“His name’s on the board, so I don’t know if Said forgot to read Ollie’s name on the it, but I think Henrik (Dalsgaard) did a good job telling Said that Ollie was our penalty taker.
“I’ll make sure Said knows that Ollie is our penalty taker next time.”
Watkins redeemed his penalty miss with the winning goal deep in injury time as the Bees came from 2-0 down with six minutes to go to clinch all three points.
Goals from Tom Bradshaw and Jed Wallace gave the visitors a two goal cushion and it looked like Adam Barrett was on his was to his second successive win since taking temporary charge of the Lions.
With six-minutes remaining however substitutes Josh Dasilva and Bryan Mbeumo struck before Watkins completed an unthinkable turnaround, a strength of character in his forward that Frank praised.
“Another positive thing for Ollie, he missed a penalty, conceded a penalty, but scored a winner.
“It shows the mentality and steps he’s taken as a player this season.
“The other positives is that Josh got another goal, Bryan got another goal, we need more goal scorers.”
Reluctant to take praise for making the substitutions which got the Bees back into the game, the Brentford boss lauded the development of his goal getters this season.
“Josh is on a very good development in this moment.
“Nice to see two goals from subs, but that’s just a cherry on the cake, what we want to see is development, and what I’ve seen in the last two months alone is very promising.
“We have a top player here.”
Brentford travel to Swansea on Tuesday.
