Manager Terry Brown insists AFC Wimbledon still have the Ryman League Premier Division title in their sights despite languishing behind leaders Chelmsford City.

Brown roared defiance after seeing his side dispatch rock-bottom Leyton 5-0 and Wealdstone 6-1 this week to keep up the pressure on the Essex side.

The Dons are now just nine points behind the leaders with a trip to struggling Heybridge Swifts to come tomorrow.

Brown said: "It is certainly doable, but I admit Chelmsford have to slip up and we cannot do anything about that.

"It has been a peculiar season but we now feel as though everything is firing.

"I am sure Chelmsford will have their collapse last year in their minds and, to be honest, I do not think their squad is as strong as ours.

"If they get a few injuries, anything could happen."

The Dons' five-star display at the weekend came courtesy of contributions from a Sam Hatton double and goals from Luis Cumbers, Daniel Webb and Luke Pigden.

Cumbers, Steve Ferguson, Webb, Tony Finn, Rob Quinn and Mark Da Bolla were on target on Tuesday night as Dons made it four league wins in a row.

Brown lauded his new-look strikeforce of pacy loanees Ramone Rose and Cumbers.

He added: "The new boys have made a huge difference.

"After Jon Main got injured, we really needed some pace up front.

"I have not been happy with our strike pairings all season and we have not been getting enough goals.

"We now have two guys who are young, hungry and bang in form."

The emergence of Rose and Cumbers has also allowed Brown to farm out Richard Jolly to Braintree on loan, as the Kingsmeadow merry-go-round shows no sign of slowing down.

And the Dons boss admitted he liked keeping players on their toes.

He added: "Sometimes, you need to give people a kick up the backside and let them know things are not good enough.

"They make think they are doing well, but often that is simply not the case."
