Bromley secured a two-goal victory over South London rivals AFC Wimbledon in their first home game in the Football League.

On the freshly laid turf at Hayes Lane, Bromley hosted their first home game in the Football League against South London rivals AFC Wimbledon.

5,000 fans packed inside the home of the Ravens to see the EFL new boys, and they failed to disappoint.

Bromley nearly got off to a dream start, Corey Whitely drove an effort from outside the box towards the bottom corner in the 5th minute. The shot looked to be thundering in, but a phenomenal leap from AFC Wimbledon goalkeeper Owen Goodman denied the attacker, producing a huge save at full stretch.

Sloppy and loose was the thread of both sides' passing game. The affair had failed to settle with incisive attacks few and far between. It was a tempo that suited the hosts as they sought points in their first home game in League Two.

AFC Wimbledon had their moments, but frequently missed that final bit of quality. Omar Bogle danced across the Bromley box in the 28th minute, before spilling an effort wide.

The visitors’ finest showing in the first half came from James Ball, who drove the ball to the byline, he produced an outrageous turn that took two Bromley defenders out of the conversation. Bromley were open, and the Wimbledon man pummelled a ball across the face of the goal, but there was nobody there to tap the ball into a gaping net.

After a cagey 35 minutes, Michael Cheek gave the Bromley faithful yet another moment they would not forget. The forward, who scored twice under the Wembley arch in May to help send Bromley to the Football League, netted his second goal of the season. It was a speedy and intelligent move from the Ravens as the ball found Cheek on the edge of the area, who slotted his shot into the bottom left corner.

GO DEEPER

It was a perfect start to their inaugural home match in League Two, and as the curtain drew upon the first half, Andy Woodman was a pleased gaffer.

Woodman’s delight was furthered just 15 minutes into the second half. Loanee Danny Imray made an exceptional run down the right. Gliding through half of Wimbledon’s team, he reached the penalty area, cutting it back to Corey Whitely, who finished well.

Wimbledon entirely lost their way after conceding the second. Johnnie Jackson shook things up and made three changes shortly after conceding, but they failed to have the impact he required.

The Dons had no life to them at all and their South London neighbours were doing the job comfortably.

In the closing minutes, AFC Wimbledon showed glimpses, testing Grant Smith a couple of times, but the Bromley shot-stopper firmly stood his ground.

Rounding off a faultless start to life in League Two, Woodman’s side topped the division after two games. It was all the two’s for the Ravens, two wins from two, two goals in each and two clean sheets.

Bromley face Bradford next Saturday as they attempt to make it three from three. AFC Wimbledon will be looking to bounce back from defeat away to Cheltenham.
