Crystal Palace legend Wilfried Zaha has joined Lyon on a season-long loan from Turkish club Galatasaray.
Zaha left Crystal Palace as a free agent last summer to fulfil his lifelong ambition of playing Champions League football.
Although the Turkish Champions crashed out of the Champions League in the group stages, Zaha announced himself on the continental stage, scoring in Galatasaray’s 3-2 win at Old Trafford.
Aside from his goal in the top tier of European competition, Zaha’s stay in Turkey was tumultuous. The winger made just 21 starts (in all competitions) for the Lions, scoring ten times.
Earlier in the window, Crystal Palace explored a move for Ivorian, with chairman Steve Parish declaring he would “have Wilf Zaha back in a heartbeat,” albeit a deal was unable to be struck as the forward would have suffered tax complications by returning to the UK.
Lyon are owned by John Textor’s Eagle Football, who are attempting to sell their 45% stake in Crystal Palace to facilitate a buyout of Premier League rivals Everton.
Pierre Sage’s side finished sixth in Ligue 1 last season - qualifying for the Europa League.
Zaha will return to the UK to face Scottish side Rangers in the League phase of the Europa League.
