Crystal Palace have completed their final addition of the summer transfer window, acquiring Trevoh Chalobah on a season-long loan from Chelsea.

Despite the transfer deadline passing yesterday evening, Crystal Palace completed a deal sheet, which gifted the Eagles an extra two hours to complete the deal.

After finalising the switch in the early hours of the morning, the club announced the signing of the defender on Saturday.

Chalobah has been admired by Selhurst Park chiefs for an extended period, with the South London club first making an approach last January.

The Cobham academy product bolsters Oliver Glasner's back three, providing the Europa League-winning coach with eight players to compete for three spots.

Arriving in SE25 on a straight loan, Chalobah will expect to slot into Palace's defence alongside captain Marc Guehi and new addition Maxence Lacroix.

Chalobah was facing a season in exile at Chelsea after being banished to the Academy training facilities alongside ten first-team players. However, Palace's late loan has revived the defender's season.

While primarily an addition at centre-back, Chalobah's versatility is a big bonus for Palace, with the 25-year-old capable of slotting in at wing-back and midfield.

Chalobah has made 80 appearances for Chelsea, scoring five times - including a long-range strike on his Premier League debut against his new club.

DEADLINE DAY ROUND-UP

Crystal Palace do not have an option or obligation to buy the defender, who joined Chelsea as a nine-year-old.

Palace also explored moves for his Chelsea team-mates Raheem Sterling and Carney Chukwuemeka earlier in the window, but deemed deals as unsustainable.

Steve Parish's acquisition of Chalobah marks the sixth player the Eagles have taken on loan from Chelsea since their promotion to the Premier League in 2013.

Sailing south of the river, Chalobah - who has represented England at every age group from under-16 to under-21 - joins the quintet of Conor Gallagher, Michy Batshuayi, Loic Remy, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Patrick Bamford to experience spells on loan at Palace.

Chalobah - Glasner's seventh and final addition of the summer transfer window -  could make his Crystal Palace debut against Leicester City on Saturday 14th September.

Arriving in South London for the 2024/25 campaign, Chalobah said: “I'm delighted to join an ambitious club like Crystal Palace. I know some of the boys in the squad well and I'm looking forward to playing alongside them in front of the amazing support at Selhurst Park.”

Chairman Steve Parish added: “Trevoh is a talented young man and when the opportunity to bring him to Palace for the season arose, we were determined to seize it. I’m delighted that he has joined us on loan, and we believe he will be a great addition.”
