If Brentford seal promotion at the weekend boss Andy Scott reckons players like loan stars Billy Clarke and Sam Williams, will be the reason why.

The Bees have fielded Charlie MacDonald, Jordan Rhodes, Nathan Elder, Moses Ademola, Marvin Williams, Damian Spencer and the current front two up top this season, as the Griffin Park chief has leaned heavily on the loans system to supplement his squad.

MacDonald has been the most prolific of the eight forwards with 16 league goals, but all have helped maintain Brentford’s march to the top of the League Two table.

Aston Villa’s Williams and Ipswich Town striker Clarke found the scoresheet in Saturday’s 3-0 triumph over Accrington Stanley and Scott believes they are living proof of what he needed to make his first full season in charge a success.

“Partnerships take time to gel. I think every partnership we have had up front this season has worked pretty quickly. We needed them to,” he said at the weekend.

“We couldn’t afford time for these players to get to know each other’s games, but with good players it comes quicker.

“I’m delighted, especially with Sam. In the last two games he has taken the role of target man, which he is not used to having come from a Premiership side.

“He has taken it on board and understood what he has to do. He knows if he does it throughout a game it will cause teams problems and help us create chances and that has been the case.”

Meanwhile, defender Darren Powell will face no further action for his sending off at AFC Bournemouth earlier this month after Scott moved to swiftly draw a line under the incident.

Powell saw red - and landed a three match suspension - following a clash with fellow Bee Karleigh Osborne and the manager believes everyone involved has moved on.

“We dealt with it internally. We have an internal code of conduct at the club and Darren has been disciplined accordingly,” he added.

“That is the end of the matter. We’ll move on and it won’t be a cloud hanging over us.”
