Sutton United boss Paul Doswell says his squad is ready for Ryman League Premier Division lift-off despite suffering his second rejection in as many weeks.

Utility man Hasim Deen joined Charley Hearn in becoming the latest to turn down the manager's advances after moving to Manchester for personal reasons this week.

The 22-year-old had been expected to play an important role at Gander Green Lane next season providing quality cover for at least four positions.

Doswell insists his decision simply opens the door of opportunity for one of four youngsters he will run the rule over during pre-season.

The United squad is back in training next week leaving the Sutton chief little time for adjustments to his personnel if he wants a settled set-up for the duration of the off-season schedule.

But the manager remains confident he can get the team off to the flying start they will need to be among the title contenders this season.

“Hasim is moving because of family reasons and feels unable to commit, but I'm still happy with what I've got,” he said.

“There are three or four youngsters that have played at a higher level that we want to have a look at.

“Charley and Hasim not signing means we have some flexibility to bring some players in further down the line.

“It is vital we get off to a good start if we are talking about winning it and we are.

“Top five is the least we expect, but let us be positive. We are out to win it and if we don't at least we will have worked hard for it.”

And he believes the feel good factor from reaching the play-offs and securing an FA Cup first round appearance last season will play its part.

“There is an energy and enthusiasm about the place,” he added.

“I think the fans will enjoy watching a young and talented team. They are not star names yet but I believe that have the potential to be just that.”
