Legendary Wimbledon goalkeeper Dave Beasant is preparing to roll back the years in a re-match of England’s 1990 World Cup semi-final.
Beasant, a substitute throughout Italia 90, could get the chance to put that right in a clash with the German side that went on to win that World Cup at St James’ Park, Newcastle, on Sunday, July 26.
Stuart Pearce later said he felt Beasant should have come on for the penalty shoot-out on that fateful night in Turin when Peter Shilton was unable to save any of the five German penalties.
The match will raise money for the Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Foundation.
Paul Gascoigne, Chris Waddle, Peter Beardsley, David Platt, Des Walker, Peter Shilton, Steve Hodge, Les Ferdinand, Rob Lee, John Beresford, Steve Howie and Neil Webb are also down to play for England.
The likes of Lothar Mattheus, Thomas Helmer, Fredi Bobic, Steffen Freund, Guido Buchwald and Bodo Illgner will play for the Germans.
Tickets for The Sir Bobby Robson Trophy match are £10 for adults and £5 for children, are available from www.nufc.co.uk or by calling 0844 372 1892.
