Old Spitalfields Market will be challenging football hopefuls to test their skills against legendary Chelsea footballers on Thursday, August 25.
Ten teams will battle it out in aid of Glad’s House, a British project committed to improving the young lives of vulnerable young people in Kenya and Senkaa.
Paul Canoville, the first black player to play for Chelsea, will be taking part in support of his own community project, Senkaa, which aims help young people through football-focused initiatives.
“We are all here to have fun and, hopefully raise the profile of these two very worthy organisations,” said Canoville.
“I am a great believer in the power of football, and the work of projects like Glad’s House in Kenya and Senkaa in the UK is proof that sport can have a positive and inspirational effect on the lives of young people.”
Other members of the Chelsea legens team will include Colin Pates, Gary Chivers, Clive Wilson, Keith Dublin and Gary Stanley.
To kick off the search for teams, former Chelsea goalkeeper Dave Beasant will challenge members of the public, and some surprise celebrity guests, to a penalty shoot out at Old Spitalfields Market on Tuesday, August 11.
The entry fee is £100 per team with all proceeds going to Glad’s House. They will go head-to-head in two leagues on a specially-constructed pitch at Old Spitalfields Market from 4pm on August 25. To sign-up e-mail asparrow@ballymoregroup.com
