Sutton United midfielder Bentley Graham has more reason than most to look forward to his club’s clash with pre-season friendly clash with Brentford next week - he could yet be playing for the opposition.
The 18-year-old has been training with the Griffin Park outfit since April and turned out for the Bees in their 2-1 friendly defeat at Farnborough Town last week.
Graham, who has 16 first appearances to his name, has grown up through the youth ranks at Sutton but is keen to land a shot in the professional ranks with the League Two champions - the visitors at Gander Green Lane on July 22.
Doswell admits it is not beyond the realms of possibility that the youngster will line-up against United - in the inaugural playing of the President’s Cup -before he plays a game for his side this summer.
And he believes the youngster is in a win-win situation.
“I didn’t give him many chances last season because I decided I wanted to go for experienced performers. I think he was frustrated by that but if he is with us he will get his chance,” he said.
“It would be a great little move for him. Brentford have a reserve team so if he goes he is going to get plenty of opportunities to improve.
“Either way he is in a no lose situation. If he remains with us he will get enough football to get a good move later in his career.
“I don’t whether he is likely to be picked for Brentford again but we had a laugh about the chance of him playing against us the other night.”
