The Dons romped to victory in the Isle of Man tournament this weekend – but the manager says he is no closer to knowing his starting side.
The competition, which saw three games take place in one afternoon, was sponsored by long-standing supporter Mike Richardson.
Wimbledon meet Luton Town in their Blue Square Premier opener in three weeks time.
An easy 8-1 triumph over local side Ramsey in the early afternoon and a 3-0 win over an Isle of Man select XI didn’t really help boss Terry Brown’s thought process.
The manager will know more about his starting line up against the Hatters on August 8 after the next two friendly matches against League One Brighton and FC United of Manchester.
Brown said: “It was a great little trip and all the lads certainly benefited from some time away together. It was a terrific bonding exercise.
“We played some good football and I’m sure the supporters who came over to follow us enjoyed the goals we scored.
“Overall it was a very satisfactory work out. Your main aim when you come to play in games like this is to avoid injuries and I think we have managed to do that so that’s another plus point.
“Another plus was the performance of young Peter Rapson. The boy is only 17-years old didn’t look out of place so he’s give us something to think about as did a few others. Also having Luke Garrard back was great to see.
“But I have no idea what the team will be yet for Luton. I should know a bit more after the Brighton match on Tuesday night and I hope to be even clearer by the time we take on FC United at Kingsmeadow next Saturday.
“I only have a few players certain in my mind to play on the first day but the next week should help find some more answers.”
The opening game, which kicked-off at 12.30pm, was a walk in the park for the Blue Square South champions.
They thrashed local side Ramsey 8-1 as Jon Main, Sam Hatton, Derek Duncan and teenager Rapson all netted twice to get the tournament off to a high-scoring start.
It was less conclusive in the second match as hosts Isle of Man held their own for 41 minutes before Lewis Taylor broke the deadlock with half-time looming.
He tapped in from close range and from that moment there was little double about the outcome as Wimbledon’s far superior fitness began to tell.
With seven minutes of the second half gone, Elliott Godfrey got on the end of Ricky Wellard’s ball to make it 2-0.
And Danny Kedwell rounded off a high-scoring afternoon for Brown’s boys with a well-taken third.
Isle of Man did end the day on a high note, beating Ramsey in a thrilling final match 4-3.
