Terry Brown has shrugged off AFC Wimbledon’s sluggish start to their pre-season schedule by insisting he is not even interested in results at this stage.

Aside from a goal spree in the Isle of Man last weekend the Dons have drawn a blank in two Kingsmeadow friendlies, the most recent a 2-0 reverse to Brighton & Hove Albion on Tuesday night.

But Brown remains unconcerned.

He said: “I never put too much emphasis on pre-season results regardless of the outcomes.

“Performance wise I’m still very much finding out about the new players - finding out how they fit into both the squad and the style of play.

“I’m still mixing the sides up and I will continue to do that in the game on Saturday.

“I am asking players to play out of position to see what our options are - for example I have had Ricky Wellard play all the midfield positions and used Derek Duncan as left-back, left-midfield and left-wing.

“It is still very much experimental stuff at the moment.”

Defensive howlers cost the Dons dear on Tuesday - a slip-up late in each half leading to Brighton goals.

And Brown admits that is something that needs to change.

He added: “We gave away some really simple goals at the start of last season that were down to individual errors.

“If you look at the three goals we have conceded in our home friendlies they too have all been down to basic errors.

“If that is still happening in the first week of the season then I would be worried, but it is always going to happen at this stage of things.

“I’m also a bit disappointed that we have not got on the scoresheet at home - we have created some good chances but not taken them and that is something we need to work on.”

Brown will continue to tinker when the Dons host FC United of Manchester this weekend.

But he accepts that everything needs to be in place before Wimbledon head to Farnborough Town for their final pre-season test the following weekend.

Brown added: “I need to give everyone the chance to get game time under their belt and also the chance to impress me but you have to draw the line at some stage.

“On Saturday we will use the 60-30 minutes formula again, but then I need to get things sorted.

“Overall though I am very pleased with how things are going - my job at this stage is to get the squad fit and everybody is raring to go.

“The team has gelled really well and there are no cliques within the squad, which makes my job a lot easier.”
