Brentford boss Andy Scott insists Myles Weston is far from the finished article, despite the former Notts County star enjoying a week to remember in Bees colours.

The 21-year-old winger laid-on Ben Strevens maiden goal for the club in last week’s 3-1 home defeat to Ipswich Town, before netting his first himself with a fine strike in Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with Championship side Crystal Palace.

A date is yet to be set for a tribunal to decide Weston’s transfer fee after Brentford and the Magpies failed to reach an agreement over the former Charlton Athletic trainee’s valuation.

But Scott has been delighted with the way he has formed a telling relationship up front with Strevens in the absence of injured striker Charlie MacDonald, and the Griffin Park chief reckons there is more to come.

“Strevs was fantastic and provided a real target for the team and again linked up well with Myles, who destroyed them at time with his pace, “ he said.

“He has still got a lot to learn, but he already knows what he is doing in certain areas and scored a good goal.”

Weston’s ability to play out-wide and up-front embodies Scott’s strategy of signing adaptable players to make up for any shortfall in the size of his squad.

He is still looking to add two or three players to his first team resources, but says he is comfortable enough with what he has not to rush back into transfer market.

“Since I took the job I’ve been pretty frugal and have made sure there have been no panic signings,” he added.

“We cannot afford that as a club or as a manger. Everyone we bring in is well researched and if they are not available we will not just sign anyone.

“The players we have got in the squad at the moment are all more than capable of performing very well in the first team and that is what we have been working towards.”
