United were outclassed by a strong-looking Bees side as Andy Scott's team took the first President's Trophy, inaugurated in memory of Andrew Letts.
The Football League side were bigger, stronger and altogether more composed than the U's in a first half that saw Sutton pushed back for long periods and unable to really get hold of the ball.
On the plus side, the defence looked solid and when U's did get the ball they movced it around well.
Ademola put teh viistors ahead midway through the half when he wrong-footed Scriven from 10 yards, the keeper being unsighted behind his defence. Elder doubled the lead just before the break after Moore had saved well from Woods-Garness.
Several changes at the interval gave U's more pace upfront but when Scriven was unable to claim a deep free-kick it allowed Legge to head home unchallenged.
Payne, Dunn and Joseph troubled the visitors with some direct running and one clever move led to a corner which El-Salahi headed home at the far post.
A similar header a few minutes later almost brought a second goal but after Roberts pounced on the loose ball his low drive was cleared off the line.
