Former Sutton United striker Andy Scott says he was only too happy to bring his high-flying Brentford team to Gander Green Lane as a tribute to Andrew Letts.
The Bees boss watched his side dominate in a 3-1 triumph on Wednesday that saw captain on the night Leon Legge lift the President’s Cup after a game played to honour the former club president who died last year.
Scott started his playing career with the Ryman League Premier Division side before heading to Sheffield United, Brentford, Oxford United and Leyton Orient on his way to returning to Griffin Park as manager.
His side is looking to start where it left off last season when he lifted the League Two title in May, and he insists it was good to be able to build a trip down memory lane into his team’s preparations.
“It is always nice to come back and Sutton have always given us a good game down here. It is a good relationship we’ve got going,” he said.
“I spoke to Bruce Elliott about it. The occasion was for Mr Letts, who unfortunately passed away, and I was more than happy bring a side down.
“It was good work out for the boys and there was some good stuff played.”
