Manager Andy Scott is waiting on answers from two targets he is hoping to bring to Brentford before the start of the season, but insists he is no rush to add to his squad.
The Griffin Park chief has added six players to his squad this summer and is currently looking at bringing in a second-string goalkeeper having Glenn Hoddle Academy trialist shot stopper Billy Lumley he will not be required.
Scott has also told midfielder James Simmons, also recommended by Hoddle, he will not be pursuing his interest and is weighing up offering Sutton Untied youngster Bentley Graham a shot at a possible reserve team berth next season.
Defender Alan Bennett finally put pen to paper on a two-year deal on Thursday ending weeks of speculation over his future having been released by Reading at the end of last season.
League Two winning manager Scott knows where he needs to strengthen, but is prepared to wait to get the men he wants happy in the knowledge he already has adequate resources to start the campaign.
“The transfer window doesn’t close until the end of August so there is no need to panic. We made a couple of late signings last year that really worked for us,” he said.
“It is important we are patient. I wouldn’t want to bring in someone and then find the person we really wanted becomes available.
“We are not looking for players desperate to play for us because they are probably not the type of players or characters we are looking for.
“We are talking to people who otherwise might not have considered coming to us, so it takes a little while longer to persuade them.
“I’m expecting a couple of answers this week and I’m confident that when we get people here and they see what we are trying to do they will take that step.”
Betting tycoon Matthew Benham has begun proceedings to become a major shareholder at Brentford over the next five years, in a proposed deal that will see him acquire an initial a 35 per cent stake in the club before pumping £1million-a-year into the club’s coffers until 2014.
The deal is yet to be rubberstamped by Brentford supporters trust Bees United, who will discuss the proposals - backed by club chairman Greg Dyke - at a meeting on August 17 before a postal vote.
But Scott admits it is not something that is likely to affect his plans in the immediate future.
“I’m aware of things going on behind the scenes, but it is not affecting my job at the moment. It doesn’t change anything. We’ll continue to do what we are doing until someone says otherwise,” he added.
Brentford travel to Blue Square Premier side Hayes & Yeading on Saturday for the final pre-season friendly ahead of next week’s trip to Carlisle United, with Scott promising not to risk too many of his first choice stars.
“We did some fitness testing this week and the results were far better than we expected. Pre-season has gone very well,” he said.
“We’ve got quite a few Saturday/Tuesday games in the opening weeks ,so we don’t want to risk too many of our first team squad. Tests show everyone has already had enough playing minutes already.”
Striker Moses Ademola has joined Blue Square South side Woking on a six month loan.
