Brentford winger Myles Weston insists he has no regrets over quitting Notts County, despite former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson being appointed director of football for the Magpies.
Weston signed for the Bees this summer - for a fee yet to be agreed via tribunal - weeks before Erickson was unveiled Meadow Lane following a multi-million pounds take-over led by Middle Eastern consortium Munto Finance Ltd.
The 21-year-old former Charlton Athletic trainee has impressed up front for the Bees during pre-season, scoring three goals in the absence of Charlie MacDonald and now Ben Strevens.
And he insists he has made the right decision by moving to an ambitious club playing at a higher level, rather than staying at one still striving to escape the lower reaches of the Football League.
“I have no regrets. I don't really care about the Notts County situation because I think I’ve come to a better team," he said.
“I’m in League One and if I had stayed there I’d have been in League Two.
“I’ve got something to prove, playing against some big teams I haven’t played against before. I’m excited about the new season. I’ve never played League One before. It’s a challenge and I hope I can do well.”
Weston rose to prominence last season as a winger but has been deployed up front thus far for the Bees - a role the youngster believes he has no problem with a adjusting to.
“When I was younger I used to play up front, so I’m just getting used to it again, playing with someone else and building up an understanding,” he added.
“My pace will be an asset because it can help you get away from someone and get shots off, but I’ll have to use it differently.
“I haven’t even spoken to the gaffer about it I’m just happy to play wherever he wants me to - if he wants me to play up front, I’ll play up front, but if he wants me to play on the left wing I’ll play there.”
