Ambitious Brentford boss Andy Scott reckons the only way he is going to manage in the Premier League is if he wins promotion from the Championship.

The 37-year-old former Sheffield United striker signed a 12 month rolling contract this week - replacing the five-year deal he penned when he originally took the job just over 18 months ago.

In an exclusive chat with the Ealing (Road) Comedies podcast team this week, Scott admits it is near impossible for a young English manager without a high-profile playing background to break into the top flight.

But getting Brentford to the next level as soon as possible is his best chance.

“I want to manage in the Championship and in the Premiership, but to do that I need to be successful here,” he said.

“My sole focus is to make sure this football club continues to improve and move forward. I want more success. It is a great feeling being promoted. Once you’ve tasted success it drives you on to get more.

“The fact we have signed new contracts means we are here to finish the job of getting into the Championship.

“I’ve signed a contract that reflects what we’ve done so far and can hopefully do in the future.

“I fancy that over the next few years I can build this club into a Championship side capable of challenging.”
