Brentford full-back Danny Foster insists missing out at Huddersfield Town has made him determined to win his place back.

The 24-year-old watched from the bench as the Bees secured a 0-0 draw at the free-scoring Terrors after boss Andy Scott reshuffled his pack and in particular the back four at the weekend.

Foster and winger Sam Saunders were both left out to stifle Town’s goal threat and to allow Brentford to retain a threat themselves on the beak.

Scott insists it was more a case of picking horses-for-courses than dropping the duo and it is a strategy he isn’t afraid of using again as he looks to build on his side’s solid start to the season.

But Foster admits that is no consolation and that he is out to make sure he isn’y the one to miss out next time.

“No-one likes being left out, but the only thing you can do it turn up for work with a smile on your face and get on with it,” he said.

“It is a long season and it is a squad game these days so you have to be prepared to not be involved, but that doesn’t stop you wanting to play every game.

“The manager is in charge to make those decisions. You have to accept them.

“There is no time to be sulking around. I’ll be working hard and doing that bit extra work to make sure I’m ready to come back flying.”

Brentford welcome third-place Bristol Rovers to Griffin Park at the weekend having already endured four weeks of playing some of the league’s big boys including Charlton Athletic, Norwich City and Southampton.

And Foster admits it has been a baptism of fire for the League One newboys.

“When you look at the league table and the form table the last month has been relentless for us, but we are hanging in there,” he added.

While his manager, who has watched his side avoid back-to-back defeats once again, believes it is an indication his squad should fear no-one.

“Bristol have an experienced management team and are very organised, so it will be another tough game. They all are at this level,” he said.

“Everyone thought we’d be put to the sword at Charlton, but we weren’t. A couple of mistakes cost us, but we were disappointed not to get something out of it.

“No-one has run away with things against us and we want to kick on from here.”

Brentford’s next three games: Sept 19 Bristol Rovers, 26 Yeovil Town (a), 29 Southend (h).
