Danny Kedwell admits AFC Wimbledon are going to have to pick up the pace at home if they are to stand any chance of gatecrashing the Blue Square Premier play-offs this season.

The Dons were held to their fourth consecutive draw on Tuesday night, a frustrating 1-1 stalemate with Crawley Town, with Kedwell’s second-half equaliser securing a share of the spoils.

And with Histon heading to Kingsmeadow on Saturday, the striker reckons Wimbledon must start converting draws into wins.

Kedwell said: “You do not mind coming off the field having drawn against the likes of Luton or Cambridge as they are former league sides and expected to do well.

“But home games against the likes of Crawley or Histon is where you really have to pick up three points, and that is what has let us down so far.

“I think we have got the respect of all the sides in the division and for those sides in the middle and lower half of the table, coming to Kingsmeadow is a big game with the crowd and everything else.

“Teams come and are happy to defend, and it is up to us to break them down.”

Crawley boss Steve Evans laid into the Dons set up after the game, insisting the Wimbledon fans were ‘dreaming’ if they thought Terry Brown’s men could claim a play-off spot.

But Kedwell shrugged off the criticism and insisted things are moving in the right direction.

He added: “That is Steve Evans for you - as a man he is always looking to put a downer on things.

“To be honest I’m not sure what he is talking about as I thought we dominated the game and they were lucky to get a point.

“If we win our game in hand we could go fifth, so we are certainly aiming for the play-offs.”

The 26-year-old took his season tally to nine with Tuesday night’s header, and the forward is well on his way to beating last season’s 16-goal output.

And Kedwell is eager to pay tribute to boss Brown for his turnaround in form.

He added: “Before I came to Wimbledon I was at Grays Athletic and to be fair I had a bit of a bad attitude.

“I didn’t really care if I played or not and I wasn’t really enjoying my football.

“But Terry brought me here and it is great to be part of a settled environment and side.

“Terry has made me realise how much I love football all over again and hopefully I can keep banging in the goals like I’m doing at the moment.”
