Jordan Turner-Hall will be out until the new year because of the shoulder injury he sustained playing for Harlequins last weekend.
Turner-Hall, who made his England debut in the summer, will go in for surgery next Monday on a labral tear to his left shoulder.
It is another blow for crisis club Quins, who went on to lose Saturday’s game with Saracens after Turner-Hall went off, and who have lost all three of their Guinness Premiership games this season.
Turner-Hall saw a specialist on Tuesday and the Quins and England medical teams expect that he will be unavailable for three to four months.
