Bees defender James Wilson has described Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Southend United as a ‘huge result’ and has urged his team mates to back it up with a repeat performance against Swindon Town.
The 20-year-old is currently on a three month loan from Championship high-flyers Bristol City and played a full part as the Bees erased the memory of poor performances against Bristol Rovers and Yeovil Town.
Scott blasted his side over their lacklustre display in Somerset at the weekend - which brought a convincing 2-0 defeat - before proclaiming himself delighted with his men’s response having gone 1-0 down to the Shrimpers three days later.
It meant Brentford avoid a run of three straight defeats and recorded their first win since a 2-1 triumph over Norwich more than a month previously and Wilson admits it was an important step in the right direction.
“Three defeats in a row in a season is not good enough, so this win was an absolutely huge result for us,” he said.
“The last two games have been disappointing to say the least and it was important to stop that rot.
“Another defeat would have meant looking over our shoulders down the table rather than looking towards the top, so hopefully we can kick on now.”
And Scott admits he is now eyeing a surge up the table after a difficult run of games.
“Apart from those at the very top, this league is very tight. We need to be consistent and pick up points from the teams who are around us,” he added.
“That will push us up the league and we can then hopefully get points off the bigger teams to really push us forward.
“I asked for a response and we got that. The crowd saw we’ve got fight, ability and everything they want in a Brentford team.”
Brentford’s next three games: Oct 3 Swindon Town (h), 9 Hartlepool (a, ko 7.45pm), 17 Leyton Orient (a).
