Terry Brown has backed out-of-sorts striker Jon Main to come good despite the misfiring frontman failing to find the net since August.
Main, who fired 37 league and cup goals for the Dons last season, has only three goals to his name this campaign - all from the penalty spot.
But despite being usurped from the starting 11 by both Luke Moore and Ross Montague, Brown insists it is simply a matter of time before the 28-year-old hits the goal trail again.
He said: “I think Jon would pretty much give his right arm for a goal at the moment.
“Forwards thrive on goals and when they are not going in the confidence drains away very quickly.
“If anything Jon is trying too hard and things are not falling for him.
“It is a different situation for him this year - for the past couple of seasons Jon has been getting chances on a plate, clean chances you know he is going to take.
“But it is a lot more difficult at this level and he is still adjusting.
“Make no mistake though he is still vital to this team and I am sure he will come through it.”
Wimbledon saw their seven-game unbeaten run come to a juddering halt at the weekend when they slipped to a 1-0 Kingsmeadow loss to visitors Kidderminster Harriers.
And Brown had no complaints about the result.
He added: “Kidderminster came down here and did really well on the day.
“They outpassed us and that is the first time that has happened to us this season.
“We had a lot of the ball but we are really lacking a cutting edge.
“Danny is obviously pulling his weight but we really need goals from midfield.
“I am tired of saying it, but we obviously still don’t have the right formula at the moment and that is something we have to keep working at.”
The result saw the Dons slip back to eighth in the table ahead of their trip to Forest Green this weekend.
And Brown reckons the nip-and-tuck nature of recent games shows just how competitive a league the Blue Square Premier is.
He added: “There are some fantastic football sides in the Premier - sides packed with quality players.
“In fact I am convinced that the top five sides in this division at the end of the season would be better than the bottom five in League Two.
“That is why it makes me laugh when sides like Luton come down and think they are just going to walk back up.
“I think a lot of it is down to the impatience of the fans, but if these teams think they can just turn up then they deserve everything they get.
“You have to scrap and fight for everything in this league and that is something we are known for.
“Forest Green will be more of the same - they are at the wrong end of the table but are in good form at the moment and we know it will be another difficult place to go.”
AFC Wimbledon’s next three matches: Oct 10 Forest Green Rovers (a), 17 Kettering Town (h), 24 TBC (FAC)
