Elliott Godfrey is hoping to cement his berth in AFC Wimbledon's midfield after finally shaking off the injuries and illness that have blighted his campaign to date.
After a surprise start at Millwall in the FA Cup defeat, Godfrey followed that up with a goalscoring display as the Dons fought back to claim a 2-2 draw at Barrow on Saturday.
And ahead of two Blue Square Premier home games in the space of four days, with York City and Ebbsfleet United on their way to Kingsmeadow, the 26-year-old reckons better times are on the horizon.
Godfrey said: “I have not featured in a lot of games this season because of various niggles and it has been very frustrating.
“My game time has not been what I expected, and the injuries have come at exactly the same time they did last season.
“The thing is this year is that we have so many options in midfield.
“Everyone brings something different to the team and with the boss chopping and changing a lot you have to make an impression when you get a chance.
“Hopefully now I can stay injury-free and make one of the midfield spots my own.”
Jon Main notched the other Dons goal as Wimbledon battled back from a 2-0 deficit to claim a useful point at the weekend.
And Godfrey reckoned it felt like a win.
He added: “It says a lot about the character of the team to come back like we did.
“The Barrow game was totally different to Millwall but it was just as hard.
“It was a very difficult game and it took an awful lot out of the players, and we were really happy to get a point.
“There was a good atmosphere in the dressing room after the game and hopefully we can kick on from here.”
The Dons have slipped to 10th in the table on the back of just one win in their last five games.
And Godfrey wants the two home games to signal a return of play-off ambitions.
He added: “I think they will be two totally different games but we have to approach them with the same mentality.
“If we can get two positive results there, and make the most of our game in hand we are right in the mix.
“Everyone needs to play their part but we are confident of getting back on track.”
AFC Wimbledon's next three matches: Nov 21 York City (h), 24 Ebbsfleet United (h), 28 Kidderminster (a)
