Bees boss Andy Scott has admitted he is after a lunch date with Arsene Wenger to try and keep star keeper Wojceich Szczesny at Griffin Park.
The 19-year-old Polish shot stopper produced a string of fine saves - including tipping an injury time effort from Steven Gillespie wide - as Brentford beat Colchester United 1-0 on Tuesday night.
Scott’s men have conceded two goals in the youngster's three games since arriving from the Emirates and he played a big hand in making sure why the Bees secured their first back-to-back wins of the campaign.
Szczesny, refused permission to play in Saturday’s FA Cup win over Walsall by his Arsenal paymasters, will be with the League One outfit until Christmas and the Griffin Park chief admits he would love him to stay.
“Never mind picking up the phone to Arsene, I think I might even try and have a bit of lunch with him to tie him down and make sure he signs the paper work there and then,” he said.
“He has only played a couple of league games in his career, but he doesn’t look phased at all which is the sign of a top, top class player.
“Arsenal know how good he is. That is why they didn’t want him playing in the FA Cup. We will do our very, very best to keep him.
“He has been fantastic for us and hopefully he’ll be with us for a bit longer.”
That could spell the end for Derby County loanee Lewis Price, who can be recalled from his season long loan by the Rams in January, providing Nikki Bull returns to fitness.
Midfielder John Bostock and centre-back Pim Balkestein have breathed new life into the Bees starting line-up since the manager decided a re-shuffle was required.
And Scott, who has threatened a clearout in the new year, will be doing his best to accommodate the quality he insists he needs to keep away from the drop.
“The players we have brought in have given everyone a little lift. You can see the quality of all of the lads we have brought in. We will re-assess our loans as we move through December,” he added.
“Everyone wants to come and play. There is competition for places in every position and we have to make sure that remains the same.
“I’ve always had faith in the players I’ve brought to the club. We managed it last year when people didn’t think we could and this year we’ve been looking up the table and not down.”
