Andy Scott says his Brentford players must ignore recent history with Gillingham on Saturday and instead concentrate on continuing to climb the table.
There has been no love lost between the Bees and the Gills since Nathan Elder saw red at Priestfield Stadium in December 2008 and then Gillingham's Garry Richards was given a retrospective ban after Scott pointed out the defender's role in a 20-man brawl.
Gills manager Mark Stimson has since refused to shake Scott's hand and when the sides met on Boxing Day both were reduced to 10 men.
Scott though wants his squad to forget all that and just think about claiming the three points against a Gillingham side yet to win on their travels this year.
"All the games we have had since we played them at their place when there was a fracas have had a bit of extra spice to them," he said.
"But there are three points on offer and we need those to keep pushing into the top ten and higher.
"They will be looking to get their first away win of the season and it is always a battle against them but we have got a good home record and want to maintain that."
Brentford currently sit 10th in League One, eight points above the relegation zone and 12 points off the play-offs after one defeat in their last seven league games, and Scott hasn't ruled out a charge into the top six.
"The big thing for us is to stay in this league and get 52 points," he said.
"When we get there we will see how we are doing, where we are and how many games we have left.
"The priority is staying in the league, once we have done that then hopefully we can push up even further."
