Lewis Taylor admits last weekend’s disappointing draw at Cambridge United has heaped the pressure on AFC Wimbledon ahead of their big clash at Luton Town on Saturday.
Taylor bagged both Dons goals in the 2-2 draw at the Abbey Stadium, only for defensive lapses to cost Wimbledon dear against their ten-man hosts.
And the midfielder reckons it was an opportunity missed.
Taylor said: “Before the game I think we would have settled for a point but not after the way the game turned out.
“We should really have won and in my opinion we now need to go to Luton and win.
“We lost ground at the weekend and it was our own fault.
“Defensively the goals we conceded were very poor but there is nothing to be gained from pointing fingers at people.
“We are in this together and we have to come through it together.”
Taylor’s brace made it six goals this season for the former Horsham man.
And the 23-year-old reckons there is still room for improvement.
He added: “I feel there is definitely more to come.
“I am pretty happy with what I have achieved so far this season but you always want more.
“I’m known for scoring goals and I am happy that I am starting to get in amongst them for Wimbledon.”
The Cambridge point is the opening chapter in a trilogy of away games that will now see the Dons face Luton Town and Oxford United on their travels.
And Taylor feels the disappointment among the squad after the weekend draw speaks volumes for the progress being made at Kingsmeadow.
He added: “We are going to these type of places and not fearing anybody.
“I think that says a lot about not only how far we have come, but how quickly as well.
“It is great to go to places like these former league grounds and play in front of big crowds.
“We all enjoy it and we are all committed to doing our best to getting Wimbledon into the Football League.”
AFC Wimbledon’s next three matches: Feb 20 Luton Town (a), 23 Oxford United (a), Mar 2 Chipstead (SSC, a)
