Brentford boss Andy Scott has not written off Alan Bennett's chances of a return to his starting line-up, despite dispatching him on a month-long loan to League One rivals Wycombe Wanderers.
The 28-year-old, who signed a two-year contract with the club last summer, has not started a league game for three months having been first choice centre-back at the beginning of the campaign.
The Irishman has admitted to being frustrated at a lack of first-team opportunities in recent months and was mulling over his future during the January transfer window.
But Scott says the move is mainly to keep the former Reading man sharp in preparation for any required return to match day duty for the Bees.
"Alan has been frustrated at the the lack of chances he has had and is keen to get regular first team football," he added.
"Likewise we want him to retain match fitness and see this as an ideal opportunity to maintain the level of fitness required to step back into our side when needed."
