Brentford boss Andy Scott will step up his search for fresh blood up front, despite watching Ben Strevens earn a point at Leeds United on Saturday.

The 29-year-old bundled home Charlie MacDonald’s cross shot on the hour at Elland Road, before Jermaine Beckford scuppered hopes of maximum points 12 minutes later as his promotion chasing side were held 1-1.

Strevens, who broke his fibula during pre-season, had last week vowed he was out to make the most of loan striker John Akinde’s exit after a stop-start campaign for the former Dagenham & Redbridge man.

Steve Kabba’s long term loan at Burton Albion means Strevens, MacDonald and Carl Cort are the only specialist frontmen in the squad and Scott is only too aware he needs re-enforcements.

“I’m always looking for a new striker, but unfortunately there are not many of them around. Clearly it is a difficult task bringing in the right one,” he said.

“Certainly the two who played up front today did well and Corty came on and showed what he can do.

“But in terms of numbers we need another boy in because we have something like 13 games in 43 days coming up so it is going to be a big ask.

“We know we’ve got to bring in someone else and we’re actively pursuing that.”

Strevens claimed his fourth of the season at the weekend, although the Griffin Park chief revealed doubt remained over whether MacDonald’s shot had already crossed the line before his striker partner converted.

“I think Charlie has claimed the goal to be honest. The shot came off Michael Doyle I think and was over the line with Strevs following up to make sure,” he added.

“Charlie is claiming it anyway. They can fight over it themselves, but as far as I am aware Charlie scored.”

It was the second time this season the Bees have frustrated Simon Grayson’s United, but Scott reckoned his side’s efforts came as no real surprise to him.

“I always had confidence that when we have played games at these places so far, we have adapted very well and acquitted ourselves admirably,” he said.

“These are the performances we know we are capable of.

“I’ve just said in the dressing room that it just goes to show we have very high standards for everyone in the side.

“As soon as we slip below them that’s when we get punished and lose games of football.”
