Brentford 3 (Wood 27, Strevens 70, Cort 90+4) MK Dons 3
Brentford showed their fighting qualities to come from behind three times to earn a draw with MK Dons at Griffin Park on Saturday.
In truth the Bees did enough during the second half to take all three points as they more than matched Paul Ince’s tough tackling side, but were partly undone by uncharacteristic mistakes from goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny who fumbled the ball twice to gift MK Dons two goals.
Afterwards manager Andy Scott applauded his side’s character: “When you get kicked in the teeth a good side with character gets up and goes again and that is what we did.
"We had to do that twice in the second half. We certainly deserved a point and almost all three, but that’s life.”
Scott fielded an unchanged side from that which drew at Leeds last week.
They made a slow start and were fortunate not to go behind in the opening minute when Jermaine Easter missed from close range.
MK Dons took the lead after a quarter of an hour when Szczesny fumbled a long throw from James Tunnicliffe and Aaron Wilbraham tapped in.
Mark Randall came close to doubling their lead when he curled a left footed shot just over the bar ten minutes later.
The Bees drew level shortly after following a sweeping end to end move that began with Myles Weston clearing a free kick from the edge of his box. Charlie Macdonald showed superb close control before picking out Toumani Diagouraga on the left, whose early cross-field pass found Sam Wood on the right and he coolly slotted the ball past Willy Gueret from just inside the box.
Brentford threatened early in the second half when Ryan Dickson’s mazy run into the box resulted in his shot being blocked.
MK Dons restored their lead ten minutes into the half when a slight tug from Mark Phillips sent Luke Chadwick tumbling just inside the box and Easter’s penalty found the bottom right hand corner.
The Bees came back again when MacDonald did well to create space down the right for a cross to the back post resulted in Gueret parrying Weston’s header before Ben Strevens tapped in from close range.
Brentford looked the more likely to score again and were only denied by a fantastic save by Gueret when he tipped a Tommy Smith headed over the bar.
Yet MK Dons took the lead once more in the 93st minute when a cross from Tunnicliffe wide on the right was fumbled by Szczesny and knocked in by Wilbraham.
However, Brentford came from behind yet again when a long throw from Dickson on the left was lashed home by substitute Carol Cort from six yards out to give the Bees a richly deserved share of the points.
