Andy Scott has revealed he faces needing to bring in ten new faces to Brentford this summer, depending on who performs between now and the end of the campaign.
The Griffin Park chief has 13 players under contract for next season already and is targeting a first team squad of 24 should the club stabilise in League One.
Striker Charlie MacDonald is expected to complete formalities on a new two-year deal this week, while Scott has said he will discuss the possibility of Carl Cort staying at the club in May.
Winger Sam Saunders has barely featured since making an impressive start to his Brentford compare following his switch - with Danny Foster and Ben Strevens - from Dagenham & Redbridge.
And Scott is hopeful a re-shuffling of his pack over the summer will help get the best out of the 26-year-old with a year of League One football under his belt.
“We’ve got quite a few out of contract and a few on loan, and we’ve got 13 contracted for next year already,” he said.
“We have learnt that we need to get a squad of 23 or 24 togather capable of playing first team football,” he said.
“Players have shown this season they have the ability to do that, but need to do it on a regular basis.
“There was a time when we were getting beaten too easily at the start of the season and we had to learn to become more resilient. Sam has been a victim of that change.
“He has talent in certain areas that we haven’t been able to use because of the way we have changed.
“His time will come and hopefully the players we bring in the summer can allow players like him to be more effective.”
