London Scottish full back Frankie Neale is hoping two penalties in Friday’s 29-11 defeat to France Amateurs will be enough to land him a place on the England Counties summer tour to Canada.
Neale, the youngest member of the 22-man squad, bagged a hat-trick in his side’s 29-25 triumph over an Ireland Club XV in Stourbridge earlier this month, but was unable to scale the same heights in Lille.
“The hat-trick against Ireland was my third. I scored four against Barking for London Scottish and three against Bradford & Bingley for Blackheath,” he said ahead of the weekend clash.
“For the Counties I’d scored one against Russia prior to the Ireland game and it would be nice to bag some more against France.
“I’ve been on the disappointing end of things before - I missed a Test match in Russia with a pulled muscle - so it’s nice to enjoy some success, but the most important thing is that the team wins.
“That said, now I need to perform like that again to make a strong bid for a place on the Canada tour.”
Neale was joined in France by club-mates James Brown, Rory Damant and Andy Fahey, but only the young full-back - who gave his side an early three point lead - was able to make an impression on the scoreboard.
The Exiles crashed 13-12 at third-placed Launceston - their fifth defeat of the campaign - in the absence of their star quartet as they missed an opportunity to gain ground on National Division One leaders Esher.
