AFC Wimbledon 0-2 Barrow
Wimbledon lost their nerve in front of their home crowd at the worst possible moment in a damaging night for their play-off prospects.
Relegation haunted Barrow out-played the poor hosts, who succumbed to defeat on their own soil for the first since York City visited in November.
It could prove to be a costly evening for Terry Brown’s team, who now know anything except victory against Rushden this Saturday and the promotion game will surely be up.
The game turned on Jon Main’s hopeless penalty kick just before half-time.
The striker fluffed the spot kick after Phil Bolland upended him in the box.
The Bluebirds scored twice after the re-start and cruised to victory with every Wimbledon player well off the boil.
Mark Boyd hit a thunderbolt to give the Cumbrians the 51st minute advantage before a woeful James Pullen clearance allowed Nick Chadwick a simple second.
Brown said: “The performance overall wasn’t good enough. I have told a few players in there that they will not be needed on Saturday, they won’t be wearing the shirt.
“We have had a ten day lay off and it showed. We didn’t take the game to the opposition and it’s one of our worst performances of the season without doubt.
“I’ve questioned in there if we’ve got enough leaders to step up. We have to bounce back on Saturday, that will show if we have the character one way or another. If we don’t, I’ll have to have a good look at this side.
“We will bring a loan midfielder in before Thursday who will shake things up a little bit as we desperately need that.
“I’m still sure we can still reach the play-offs but we all know it has to be better than that. Credit to Barrow, the better team won.”
