Midfielder David Hunt has told boss Andy Scott he is ready and willing to play anywhere if it helps Brentford’s defensive crisis and gets him a regular game.

The 27-year-old made his first league start since Boxing Day in Tuesday’s thrilling 3-3 draw at Colchester United, which unfortunately saw him net at both ends.

The former Northampton Town has made only 22 appearances for the club this season and has been forced to watch from the sidelines as Toumani Diagouraga has impressed in central midfield since arriving on loan in January.

Ryan Dickson and Mark Phillips could miss the rest of the season leaving a shortage of resources at the back, which saw skipper Kevin O’Connor moved from midfield to full-back in mid-week.

Scott is on the look out for defensive reinforcements knowing he has an abundance of riches in the engine room with Marcus Bean, Sam Saunders, Lionel Ainsworth and Sam Wood all fit and in the mix.

And Hunt, who has another year to run on his contract, is keen to stress he’ll do anything to get regular game.

“The wait has gone quite quickly because there have been so many games. I’m just pleased I got my chance and played 90 minutes for a change,” he said.

“Obviously everyone wants to be playing, but it is up to the gaffer to pick the team. He knows I’m ready and able to do a job when I get my chance.

“I’ve been known to play full-back in the past. I want to play every game and I don’t care where I’m needed.

“I’ll play in goal if I have to. Szczesny will tell you I’m not too bad, but I have to admit his gloves are big ones to fill in every sense.”

Hunt’s exploits on Tuesday mean he is in contention to face former club Leyton Orient at Griffin Park on Saturday, with the Bees looking to build on a four-point haul from their last two games.

“I was happy to score, but first and foremost it is about the team doing well,” he added.

“I haven’t really thought that much about points targets. For me it is about trying to win every game. We’re playing well at the minute and we need to build on that.

“There is no-one I know at Leyton Orient there now, so there isn’t any real emotion in it for me. They beat us last time, so it is a case of making up for that.”
