Terry Brown admits he was almost lost for words after news filtered through yesterday that striker Jon Main will miss the rest of the season with a cruciate ligament injury.

Main was injured during Tuesday night's frustrating 2-0 home defeat to Barrow, a game in which he missed a penalty.

And, having seen his side decimated by injuries this season, Brown reveals the latest blow is hard to accept.

He said: "It is bordering on the ridiculous to be honest.

"The problem is now we are stuck as the loan window closed yesterday.

"How about that - we see the window close and then last night we get this diagnosis.

"It is a massive blow.

"Jon will be going for a scan and we are hoping it is not too serious, but he will certainly miss the rest of this season.

"I will probably have to bring Peter Rapson back from Walton Casuals, but apart form that there is not much I can do.

"This really has been a season to forget injury-wise."

Brown was also frustrated in his bid to bring in another midfielder yesterday.

The Dons boss was tracking an unnamed Blue Square South player to bring in on loan, only for that to bite the dust.

He added: "That is finished.

"It looked promising but a few things fell apart at the end and we couldn't sort them out.

"With the window closing we cannot go back and that is disappointing."
