AFC Wimbledon 2-2 Wrexham
Frank Sinclair rolled back the years to put on a classic late horror show as Wimbledon salvaged a deserved draw.
If you have little left to play for, you may as well enjoy an evening of entertainment.
With both team’s season as good as over, it was a thrilling night with a rousing last few minutes.
Sinclair, famous for his cracking own goals over the years, put through his own net with one minute left after James Pullen’s pinball own goal gave Wrexham an undeserved lead.
After going level, Paul Lorraine’s crazy gung-ho approach allowed Andy Mangan in to put the Dragons back in front at the death.
But senseless Sinclair – after taunting the home fans in the Tempest End – then lost his mind and punched Danny Kedwell in the box, right in front of the linesman, during time added on.
Glenn Poole stepped up to convert the penalty and secure a richly deserved point for the Dons. Kedwell had missed a first-half penalty a week on from Jon Main’s spot of bother against Barrow.
Manager Terry Brown said: “I don’t think we got anywhere near what we deserved. I have never seen a more one-sided match in my life.
“I’m really, really proud that every time we got hit in the stomach we got up and we fought. How on earth we didn’t go in with a Luton (v Hayes, 7-0 half-time lead) advantage I do not know.
“They scored on their first attack and they offered absolutely nothing. We battered the life out of them.
“If I have one regret, it’s that we gave them a point that they certainly did not deserve.
“OK, we have fallen further behind York City tonight, the only team we can catch, but if we play like that we can claw anyone back.”
Wrexham manager Dean Saunders disagreed, saying: “We should have won the game. I don’t know what to say as it keeps happening to us. It took us over five hours to get here and it showed first half.
“Our goalkeeper hardly had a save to make in the second half and we’ve been undone by bad luck, like always.
“Frank has said he retaliated to being punched by Kedwell and we’ve been punished.”
