Sutton United boss Paul Doswell says his men will still be treated like heroes even if they lose at Ryman League Premier Division play-off rivals Kingstonian on Saturday.
The first team squad, currently third in the table after a 14-match unbeaten league run, will head straight to Manchester from Kingsmeadow at the weekend to see world champion David Haye’s first WBA heavyweight title defence.
The Bank Holiday blow-out has been part-funded by the club as a reward for a great season at Gander Green Lane and is a signal Doswell is confident his side will finish the job of securing a top five finish.
“Even if we lose our unbeaten run or extend it to 15 matches at Kingstonian nothing is going to spoil our day,” he said.
“It is by no means inevitable that we will make the play-offs. I think 67 points is good enough to get there, so we need five points from seven games.
“We might lose on Monday, but the boys deserve an easier weekend for the season we have had.”
