London Scottish left it late to guarantee second spot in National League Division One with a 35-28 triumph final day triumph at Sedgley Park on Saturday.
The scores were level at 28-28 in the closing stages, before Gary Trueman crossed for the second of his two ties to secure the win that kept third-placed Launceston at bay in the race for runners-up spot behind runaway leaders Esher.
Trueman’s efforts added to scores from Alex Karonias, Willie Lipp, Stuart Peel and Rory McInroy which helped the Exiles end the season on a high after a difficult March scuppered faint hopes of promotion.
Scottish - and director of rugby Brett Taylor - will wait to see if the financial problem’s of clubs in the Championship see them elevated to the second-tier of English rugby via the back door this summer.
