Shoot-out penalties from Myles Weston, Nicky Forster, Michael Spillane and Charlie MacDonald dumped Premier League Everton out of the Carling Cup on Tuesday.
The Bees had fallen behind to a fifth minute Seamus Coleman strike, but fought back to level through Gary Alexander moments before half-time.
MacDonald missed a second-half penalty before goalkeeper Richard Lee, deputising for cup-tied Ben Hamer, pulled off a string of saves to force extra-time and penalties.
The former Watford man then saved from Jermaine Beckford and watched Phil Jagielka hit a post as the Bees pulled off their biggest League Cup shock in recent memory.
