Bees boss Andy Scott says only time will tell if his squad can compete on four fronts this season.

Brentford booked a spot in the Carling Cup fourth round with a 1-1 penalty shoot-out triumph over Everton on Tuesday.

Scott’s men are in the third round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and also have the first round of the FA Cup to look forward to, on top of their League One play-off quest.

The Griffin Park chief expects to have Robbie Simpson fit again for Friday’s trip to Leyton Orient, while striker Carl Cort and midfielder Kirk Hudson are in contention.

“Before the start of the season everyone was asking what the chances were of a nice cup run this season,” he said.

“This is probably the first year I’ve had a squad capable of coping with league and cup football.

“We want to go a long way in the League Cup, Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and the FA Cup, but whether we’ve got the squad to do it is a question that can only be answered as we get further down the line.”

Scott, who is dreaming of drawing a plumb home tie in the next round of the Carling Cup, got a touchline hug from his watching parents after Tuesday’s cup heroics.

But he believes winning League Two is deserving of greater praise.

“To with the League in your first full year as a manager is a massive achievement and culmination of nine or ten months hard work,” he added.

“We’ve got kick on from this and take the confidence and belief from this into the league.

“We’ve shown we can do it, we just need to do it consistently.”
