Boss Andy Scott fears his job will be on the line unless the Brentford halt their poor start to the League One campaign.

The Bees followed up their thrilling Carling Cup triumph over Premier League Everton with a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Leyton Orient on Friday.

It leaves Scott’s men rooted in the bottom-four after eight games with just six points from a possible 32, having had hopes of a promotion push this season.

Brentford have recruited heavily to build on a ninth place finish last term and the Griffin Park chief concedes pressure is mounting to put things right.

“My job’s on the line if we keep losing games and every manager is on the line if they lose every week,” he said.

“There is no point playing well and losing every week. That’s not what makes a good side and a good team.

“A lot of people thought we should be in the playoffs. We’re eight games in and everyone thinks we can get in the playoffs because we finished ninth last season.

“We knew it was never going to be easy and we’re not giving up on that, but we’re realistic in our assessment of where we should be and where we should have been last year. It is a work in progress.

“We keep saying that, but we’ve got to start working harder and progress quicker.”
