Brentford boss Andy Scott admits the Everton champagne bubbles have fizzled out, but has backed his players to start corks popping again.
The Bees have recorded back-to-back 1-0 defeats since beating the Premier League Toffeemen in the Carling Cup to set-up a fourth round away trip to Birmingham City.
Scott’s men have slipped to the foot of the table in that time and the Griffin Park chief is wary his job will be on the line should a win of four league games without a win continue for much longer.
Brentford were struggling for a win in March when a 3-0 defeat at the Seagulls sparked an unbeaten 11-match run and the manager is confident that trick can be repeated.
“The Everton game is in the past and we forget about it and get on with it,” he said.
“Everyone was congratulating me on Saturday and Sunday about beating them, but we lost at Orient and that’s all I was concerned about.
“I don’t want to hear about good cup runs. I want to get league wins and points and push us up the table to where we should be.
“Anyone who has seen us knows we shouldn’t be in the bottom four, but the fact of the matter is we are.
“We’ll keep plugging away and people will be looking at us to see if we can respond. But I’m confident we can do that.”
Brentford entertain Charlton Athletic on Saturday - when the club will honour all-time leading goalscorer Jim Towers - knowing defeat would leave them entrenched in the bottom four.
The Bees had ambitions of a League One play-off push this season, but boss Scott insists those hopes have not yet been extinguished.
“Our season certainly isn’t over, it is very much alive,” he added.
“ We had a bad patch last season where we didn’t win away for about nine games and were struggling and all of a sudden we turned it around with one game and went on a very good run.
“We’ve got players who are more than capable of doing that again and we’ll be working hard to make sure the first game on that run is Saturday.”
Brentford’s next three games: Oct 2 Charlton Athletic (h), 5 Leyton Orient (JPT, a, ko7.15pm), 9 Oldham Athletic (h).
