London Scottish player-coach James Brown admitted his side’s first win of the season came as a relief at the weekend.
The Exiles had suffered three straight National Division One defeats until dispatching Redruth 34-15 at the Athletic Ground to move away from the foot of the table.
And Brown, “It was nice to get the first win under our belt. I was comfortable and confident in the way we were playing as we were not making mistakes,” said fly-half Brown.
“Performances have been bubbling under the surface. We have been performing well in training but have not been translating it onto the pitch. That is the first step.
“We have been improving but it has just been a case of staying patient. Last year we struggled in September and then went unbeaten until January.
“Hopefully after one victory comes another victory.”
Second row Mark Soden scored twice for head coach Simond Amor’s men with Tim Holgate and Gary Trueman also crossing the whitewash to give them the bonus-point.
Scottish travel north to Otley on Saturday and Brown expects another tough game in Yorkshire, but believes they can go from strength-to-strength.
“It will be no easy game, but that is what this league is all about. It is a long way up north but we will look to reinforce Saturday’s win,” he added.
“We are cutting out our unforced errors and that was one of the main differences against Redruth.
“We are improving from 30 odd errors to just over ten. That is when defences start to struggle and when the tries come.”
London Scottish's next three games: Oct 2 Otley (a), 9 Tynedale (h), 16 Stourbridge (a).
