Christian Jolley insists there is no magic formula to explain his recent goalscoring exploits for AFC Wimbledon - it is all simply a matter of being played in the right position.

The former Kingstonian forward made it six goals for the season in Tuesday night’s 5-2 drubbing of Mansfield Town, hitting the net for the third game in succession.

And the 22-year-old feels there is plenty more to come.

Jolley said: “I do not think there is that much to it really.

“Last year at Kingstonian I was playing wing-back and I did not get much chance to play in the last third of the pitch.

“When I was younger I was more of an out and out striker and I used to get a lot of goals.

“When I moved to Wimbledon Terry Brown said he wanted me to play further up the pitch and score more and I think a lot of it is down to being in the right place at the right time.

“I know this cannot go on for ever but I feel confident every time I step out onto the field and it is up to the other teams to stop me.”

Not only has Jolley notched a half-dozen in just 12 appearances, but his goals have proved crucial in securing points against the likes of Southport, Newport County and in Saturday’s draw with Forest Green Rovers.

And the livewire forward admits it is very much a case of rising to the occasion.

Jolley added: “It may sound a bit strange but I am a much better player when I get a bit worked up.

“When the game is flowing and we are passing it around sometimes you can drift out of the game a bit.

“But in tight games where there is not that much in it I get a lot more angry and aggressive and that seems to work for me as a player.

“Against Forest Green on Saturday things were just not clicking and we were not playing well, but that was perfect for me. ”

Having made the leap from Ryman Premier to Blue Square Premier with ease, Jolley has now set his sights on making the next leap, into the Football League.

And the young star is convinced those dreams can be achieved with his current club.

Jolley added: “Without a doubt AFC Wimbledon will be a league club soon.

“Obviously the way things have gone this season has given me a taste for football at a higher level and I think I can be part of getting Wimbledon up.

“As long as we keep doing what we are doing I think we have a great chance.

“Whenever we have a hiccup we get straight back on the wagon and we have to keep that run going.”
