Bees midfielder Nicky Adams says a misunderstanding is behind a stop-start opening to his Brentford career.

The 23-year-old has made fleeting appearances for the since his summer switch from LEicester City, with his most memorable contribution coming against Sheffield Wednesday last month.

Adams had been poised to sign for the Bees prior to pre-season training starting, but a knee operation and then the departure of Foxes boss Nigel Pearson put the deal on hold.

The former Bury star, who eventually moved to Griffin Park in August, insists he has been playing catch up ever since.

And has told fans the best is yet to come.

“I’m usually fit and sharp by now, but I had an operation in the summer and I should have signed before pre-season,” he said.

“But the Leicester manager left and took all his staff with him it meant all my medical notes never made it to Brentford and everything has been delayed ever since.

“It was decided that it was probably best I did some rehab before I started training. With all the paperwork taking a while to get in the right place, it all got delayed, but I got here eventually.

“I’ve been coming off the bench, starting a game and then coming off the bench again. I’ve just got to be patient and wait until I get a regular chance.

“I need a run of for or five games together and once that happens the fans will start to see what I’m all about.”

Boss Andy Scott made no secret of his desire to capture Adams and had been tracking him for some time prior to his arrival.

And the former Leyton Orient loanee admits the Griffin Park chief’s ambitions were key to him finally putting pen to paper.

“When we spoke he told me where the club wanted to be and where he felt the club was moving,” he added.

“With the players we have brought in he felt we’d be pushing at the top of the table and for the Championship, which is where I want to be.

“I had interest from elsewhere, but having spoken to Andy I felt Brentford was the right place for me.”
