Gary Alexander’s Charlton net buster could light the blue touch paper for the former Millwall man and Brentford, according to Nicky Adams.

The 31-year-old opened the scoring in Saturday’s 2-1 triumph over Athletic before Toumani Diagouraga notched what proved to be the winner.

It was Alexander’s third goal for his new club in a slow start to the League One campaign that has seen him and his side struggle to find the net.

But midfielder Adams believes it is only a matter of time before the Bees hit the goal trail in spectacular fashion and start climbing the table.

“Gary has been unlucky, but hopefully his goal will give him the confidence to score a few more because he deserves it,” he said.

“It is going to come together and we are going to hurt someone soon and score three or four.

“We’ve just got to keep playing the way we know and it will come good.”

And Adams, who has 17 goals in a five year career thus far, hopes he will be playing his own part sooner rather than later.

“It is not just the striker’s responsibility, everyone has got to contribute,” he added.

“Scoring goals is a big thing for me and I have scored goals where ever I’ve played, but winning is more important to me than scoring.

“If I can score a few and help the team win that would be great.”
