Mole Valley SCR turned in their best performance of the season to end Chertsey Town's 12-game winning streak, and dent their host's title challenge.
As expected, Chertsey Town started positively and with Dean Papali, and ex-Mole Valley striker Phil Page, causing problems, they forced a succession of early corners, all of which were well dealt with by the Valley backline.
It took 10 minutes for Valley to get into the game, a long kick by Leigh Bowden found Liam Holden, and his lob went just over the crossbar.
In a game that was swinging from end to end, Chertsey went close on 14 minutes, when Dan Bennett played in Tom O'Regan, but his close range shot went tamely wide.
Midway through the half Page fired high and wide, as Chertsey looked to make the breakthrough.
At the other end, Liam Holden thought he had scored, but was denied by a great save by Chertsey keeper Craig Bradshaw.
Chertsey upped their game and had a long spell of pressure, which culminated in them opening the scoring 10 minutes before the interval. A near post O'Regan corner caused confusion in the Valley defence, and the ball deflected in off keeper Bowden to give Chertsey the half-time lead.
Two minutes into the second half came the games turning point. A spell of head tennis in the Valley area eventually saw Papali fire wide from a couple of yards, when he really should have increased Chertsey's lead.
Valley were clearly buoyed by this and 11 minutes into the half they were level. Tremendous work by Holden saw him rob Simon Cox as the defender attempted to shepherd the ball out for a goal-kick. From their he cut inside and curled his effort off Bradshaws left hand post and into the net.
O'Regan went close to equalising for Chertsey on the hour, when he beat several defenders, before seeing his shot deflected wide.
Valley stunned the large home crowd on 70 minutes when Richard Smith played in Daryl Cooper-Smith, and as Bradshaw advanced he hit the perfect lob to give Valley a 2-1 lead Seven minutes later, it was 3-1, Brown's low drive bought a good save out of Bradshaw, but Jayde Spence was on hand to head home the loose ball.
With 10 minutes to go, Valley's opened up the door for Chertsey, when Brown was dismissed for a second booking, but despite a couple of scares, namely on 85 minutes when a Marcus Moody chip hit the bar and in injury time when Bowden saved superbly from a low Papali drive, they held out for a memorable win.
Team: Bowden; Bogle, Whitthread, Martin, A Smith; Spence (Roberts), Brown, Adams, R Smith; Cooper-Smith, Holden (Monan)
