A late goal by Taylor Mollatt gave Mole Valley SCR victory and a league double over Wembley, at a dusty Anvil Lane on Saturday.

It also gave Valley some revenge for their League Cup semi-final defeat by Wembley just over a week ago.

Wembley put Valley under some early pressure but the backline, well marshalled by the excellent Paul Whitthread, held firm.

Valley’s first chance came after 18 minutes when Jayde Spence’s cross was volleyed just wide by Taylor Mollatt and, shortly after, the same player saw a shot well saved, after having been released by Richard Smith.

Wembley continued to be dangerous, with Whitthread being involved in a tough tussle with Wembley's Bryan Marshe, but they failed to force Leigh Bowden into any meaningful action.

Valley almost grabbed the lead on the stroke of half time, when Liam Holden robbed keeper Sidney Anguiley, just out side the area, but the keeper recovered well to save Holden cross-shot.

Twice in the opening five minutes of the second half, Valley almost gifted Wembley the lead, first Marshe cut inside and saw his shot saved by Bowden, then good work on the left by Kobi Osei, saw him set up Paul Shelton, but he fired wide of the target when well placed.

Valley hit back strongly, and a good move involving Spence and Mollatt, ended with Holden sliding in and just failing to get a full connection on the shot.

Anguiley made a tremendous save from a flicked Whitthread header as Valley turned the screw.

Wembley came back strongly, and Bowden saved well from a Marshe free kick, and shortly after Whitthread made a superb tackle to stop Shelton getting his shot away.

As time drifted on, the game looked destined to finish goalless, but with 89 minutes on the clock, a scuffed Holden free kick was not cleared by Wembley, and the ball reached Mollatt who crashed home from eight yards.
