Boss Uwe Rosler has told his men to back up the optimism surrounding Brentford’s chances this term with a resounding opening day win.

The former Manchester City favourite makes his League One debut when the Bees kick-off their campaign with the visit of Yeovil Town to Griffin Park on Saturday.

Rosler has targeted a top 10 finish at the very least this term, in the hopes a good run-in can deliver a shot at promotion via the play-offs.

Saturday’s win over Aldershot Town in an unbeaten pre-season campaign – that included an impressive 1-0 triumph over Premier League Stoke City – suggests Brentford should hit the ground running.

And Rosler sees no reason to play down his teams prospects of success providing his players do not imply talk is cheap.

“I like to have people excited and optimistic,” he said.

“I have always said the target is to close the gap – in terms of points – between us and the play-off spaces.

“We must first establish ourselves in the top 10 of the division and then hopefully a good run-in will take us into the play-offs. I believe that is a realistic aim.”

Rosler has question marks over the fitness of defender Leon Legge, who is rated at 50-50 to be fit for Saturday after pulling a calf at Aldershot, but he remains positive.

He said: “Players might be a little nervous in the first game, with the style of play we want to introduce this year.

“But everybody can see we have worked very hard to get to where we are so far, and we can’t wait to get started.”
