Sutton United assistant boss Alan Payne has confirmed striker Bradley Woods-Garness is in the mix to face Notts County on Sunday.

The 25-year-old was recently cleared of attempting to take revenge on the key witness in a murder trial, ending a six month spell in prison on remand following his arrest in June.

Payne revealed this week that – with the exception of knee injury victim Alan Bray – he has a fully fit squad to choose from for the FA Cup second round clash at Gander Green Lane.

And Woods-Garness, who scored 16 league and cup goals for Sutton last season, could yet make a dream return to the line-up.

“There is still plenty for everyone to train for before the game because we haven’t decided the line-up, the formation or the tactics just yet,” he said.

“We are still looking at our scouting reports on Notts County and won’t make a decision until later in the week.

“Six or seven players are pencilled in already. Bradley will be in the squad, but whether it is a fairy tale for him remains to be seen.”

Essex-based Payne has been in charge this week, along with first team coaches Paul Telfer and Steve McKimm, while manager Paul Doswell takes a pre-arranged holiday in the Middle East.

But the Gander Green Lane chief will be back in the dugout come the weekend and his right-hand man insisted his absence has not had any affect on the club’s preparations.

“Our coaching staff have kept the players full focused which has meant myself and Paul have just been able to concentrate on the game from a strategic point of view,” he added.

“The hard work from everyone at the club behind the scenes means we can just concentrate on the football and not worry about the commercial side of things, which has been great.”

Sunday’s game is the first in the club’s history to be televised live and Payne reckons home advantage will be key to any chance of them causing a shock cup upset against County.

“We are comfortable at home and the home crowd will definetly get behind the team and that is a big thing to have,” he said.

“The players will need no motivation for this game. They have the chance to create a legacy for themselves and if they get the luck on the day, anything could happen.”
